I'm a finalist at the 2018 Independent Handbag Designer Awards!
I can't quite believe it. I am a finalist in the 2018 Independent Handbag Designer Awards.
It's crazy being a finalist. You get a phone call and want to scream and shout but then you have to keep it quiet for 3 weeks! At the same time you have to simultaneously create your sample, photograph it AND make a video. I didn't even have my sewing machine to hand when I got the call!
This will be my 3rd time at the awards in New York City. I'm honoured to have made it through to the finals again. What I love is the buzz of being in a theatre with so many people who are as fascinated with handbags as I am. It's like the most glamorous geekfest!!
I have made so many friends through the awards since my first trip in 2015. And found so much inspirations from them all too.
The bag that I will be taking to the finals this year is designed around the structure of a young Coconut (I fell in love with drinking fresh young coconuts in Bali last year!) It's made from a mesmerising gold flecked, waterproof black cork and well, you can check it out here on the awards website! I made a 2 minute video all about it :)
Here is the concept sketch that I entered the awards with....
And here it is in the studio!
